Well, now that I’m hopefully done fighting with a bunch of masturbating Mormons (ROFLOL), maybe I can get back to making some fun 3D movies, again.
The last thing that really got everyone tweaked out, resulting in a bunch of personal attacks in the Yahoo 3DTV and Photo3D groups, was my attempt at showing people how and why to avoid using shallow depth and excessive depth (stereoscopic deviation, or what some of us call “net deviation” or “NetD”, i.e. “total depth”).
BTW, that last time I looked, the Photo3D group is beating up a 72 year old “senior”. I hope he has enough sense to get out of there quick. I’ve been in those groups since they started, over 10 years ago, and I think the recent popularity of stereoscopic 3D has caused this weird tension in those groups. Some of us saw the same thing happen with kites (e.g. rec.kites) in the 1990′s… yes, kites… I know… can you imagine getting death threats over kites? Now you know why I laugh at everything on the Internet when it comes to fighting. Yes, it has given me a warped sense of humor, I’m afraid. But, I digress… *big grin*
So, anywhoooo, I hope to get back to some demonstrations showing alternatives to all these wild amounts of depth commonly seen in 3D movies these days. Lots of people are giving up on the recent “3D fad”, but hopefully it will survive the storm. The problem is most people don’t know why “3D doesn’t work” when it doesn’t, including, sadly, most of the so-called “3D experts”.
The problem is the “NetD”. “NetD” is the “canary in the mine” for stereo 3D. Solving the NetD problem pretty much solves everything, with the exception of the relatively small percentage of people who cannot see 3D for various reasons. There will never be a solution for that except 2D. LOL.
Back in the good old days (10 years ago, for me), it was a common thing to hear people say, “shoot for deviation”, i.e. the deviation should be the goal. They were absolutely correct.
I am not the only person who knows this “key” to good 3D, but unfortunately for me, sometimes, I am probably the one with the biggest mouth…
And, yes, my “boss” really did tell me I can’t post to those groups, again… You probably thought I was joking about that.
))
Have a Great Day!
Thanks,
Roger Maddy
